What is Sea Beaver?

Sea Beaver is a micro-UUV platform developed at the MIT AUV Lab and MIT Marine Autonomy Lab. Its design takes advantage of high-resolution additive manufacturing and cost-effective, commercial off-the-shelf (COTS) hardware components.

Beyond being a capable micro-UUV, Sea Beaver serves as a modular foundation for more advanced vehicle development. Its flexible modules — including fully configurable software, electronics, and high-fidelity simulation stacks — enable users to scale from the baseline Sea Beaver to advanced platforms, such as Extra-Large UUVs or Cross-Domain Vehicles. This modularity makes Sea Beaver an ideal test-bed for innovative technologies, with scalability built in from the start.
